The emotive style of pioneers such as Slowdive, Lush, Ride, and more left a lasting impact even though that first wave flamed out in the '90s. Indirectly, they passed their torch into the new millennium with bands like M83, Autolux, and DIIV,, inspiring a new generation to bring the shimmering subgenre into our digital, social-media-fueled age.
Fast-forward to a dark, hyperconnected pandemic era, when another new wave of shoegaze emerged, with fresh explorations shared far and wide, across SoundCloud and beyond.
